I participated in global odyssey by setting up a food stall. Through this event I learned the basic functioning of a business and what an entrepreneur must do to attract customers. This helped to improve my communication skills and social skills.
LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Through this experience, I identified my strengths in creativity and problem-solving, especially when it came to developing marketing strategies and offering schemes to attract customers. However, I realized that I could improve in time management, particularly in preparing the strawberry milkshake within a limited time frame. This insight encouraged me to work on organizing tasks more efficiently in future group activities.
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
The challenge of setting up a food stall and making products within a limited time frame helped me develop new skills. I learned how to manage time effectively and adjust prices strategically to attract more customers. Additionally, I developed my marketing skills by offering deals on our products, which increased our overall revenue. This experience also improved my ability to handle customer negotiations and requests, making me more adaptable and resilient.
LO3: Initiate and plan a CAS experience
From the beginning, I was involved in planning the menu and deciding how to market our food stall. Collaborating with my team, we brainstormed ideas and created a strategy for attracting customers and maximizing profits. Planning the pricing, sourcing the ingredients, and ensuring we had enough stock for the day required careful consideration and coordination. This process taught me valuable lessons in event management and teamwork.
LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
I demonstrated commitment by fully engaging in the preparation and running of the food stall, even when faced with challenges such as time constraints and the pressure to increase sales. Despite the obstacles, I remained dedicated to ensuring the stall was successful, working closely with my team and constantly adapting our strategies to improve the customer experience. I persevered through the busy event, managing both customer demands and product preparation efficiently.
LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Collaborating with my team was essential to the success of our food stall. From deciding the menu to setting up the stall and managing sales, we worked together to ensure everything ran smoothly. Each team member brought unique ideas and skills to the table, and by working together, we were able to create a positive environment for customers and increase our sales. This experience reinforced the value of teamwork in achieving common goals.
LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
Although this event was primarily focused on learning business skills, it also gave me a broader understanding of entrepreneurship and economic sustainability. By running a small-scale business in the context of the school’s Global Odyssey, I gained insight into how entrepreneurs globally face challenges in setting up and sustaining their businesses, especially in competitive markets. This experience helped me understand the significance of entrepreneurship in contributing to economic growth and development on a global scale.
LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
Throughout the event, I considered the ethical implications of our business practices, ensuring that we were fair in our pricing and respectful in how we marketed and sold our products. We ensured that our food was prepared hygienically and communicated honestly with customers about our products. This reflection on the ethics of business and customer interaction helped me understand the importance of transparency and integrity in entrepreneurship.
