Global Odyssey was an event organized by the Economics and Business Management team. The event was curated to give us a real life experience of working, keeping stalls and managing finances, providing us with an experience out of the textbooks. The event took 2 months to plan out, from selecting groups to theme ideas. From selling goods and services to managing customer interactions, the entire experience provided valuable insight into the realities of running a business.

The event also helped us learn management skills. For the event, my stall had food items along with 2 other people. The event was a perfect blend of excitement and learning, offering hands-on opportunities to develop real-world business skills while engaging in friendly competition with other stalls. Through this experience, I gained insights into managing a business, working collaboratively, and tackling real-world challenges head-on.

Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

Participating in Global Odyssey 4.0 presented several challenges, particularly in managing a food stall with two teammates. We had to ensure the food was prepared and presented well and handle all customers timely. There were several customers coming on the stall at once and we had different food items so we had to make sure everyone got what they wanted. Moreover, handling so many people at once was difficult so we divided our roles with 2 people serving the food and one person handling the money and handing out change. We also had to make sure that we serve warm food which was taking some time to heat, so we had to pre-heat the food at a constant pace so when customers ask for their food, it can be served directly. We were also short on spoons so we had to properly hand them out according to the customers need.

Learning Outcome 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

Planning our involvement in Global Odyssey began months in advance. My group and I had to come up with a concept, select our food offerings, and figure out the logistics of sourcing ingredients and setting up the stall. We divided responsibilities to make sure every aspect. This planning phase taught me the importance of organization, teamwork, and proactive problem-solving. By being involved in every stage, from ideation to execution, we ensured that our stall was well-prepared and ready for the event. On day was also extremely hectic since we had to make sure to open and decorate our stalls on time, so we are available at peak customer periods.

Learning Outcome 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

Throughout the planning and execution of Global Odyssey, there were moments of stress and unforeseen challenges. Yet, my team and I remained committed to the project. We only had a few minutes to set up our stall so we had to be quick. From setting up the stall early in the morning to ensuring everything ran smoothly until the end of the day, we persevered through any difficulties we faced. We stayed focused and worked hard to make the stall a success, displaying dedication to seeing our CAS project through to completion.
