Participating in the Global Odyssey event, led by students who have taken Business Management, on February 14th, 2024, with a cherry blossom theme was both exciting and challenging. My goals were to actively participate, collaborate effectively with peers, and gain insights into global issues through practical experience.
Reflecting on this experience, I recognized my strengths in communication and creativity, which contributed to the success of our team’s presentation. However, I also acknowledged my weakness in time management, which caused some stress during the planning phase. Understanding these strengths and weaknesses helped me appreciate the importance of self-awareness in personal development. Overcoming my time management weakness would have benefited me by reducing stress and improving the quality of my contributions to the team.
The challenge of coordinating various aspects of the event, such as logistics and marketing, was particularly daunting. It required effective communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills. Although I had some experience with event planning before, the scale of this project was unprecedented. Overcoming this challenge involved delegating tasks, seeking assistance when needed, and maintaining resilience in the face of setbacks. Undertaking this challenge left me with a sense of accomplishment and equipped me with valuable skills for future endeavors.
Organizing the Global Odyssey event required meticulous planning and coordination. While I consider myself generally organized, managing multiple tasks simultaneously proved challenging. The initiation phase was particularly demanding as it involved securing resources and garnering support from stakeholders. Through this experience, I discovered the importance of effective planning and initiating activities, which are essential skills for both personal and professional growth.
The activity demanded unwavering commitment and perseverance, especially when faced with unexpected obstacles such as budget constraints and scheduling conflicts. Despite these challenges, my team and I remained dedicated to realizing our vision for the event. Showing perseverance and commitment not only helped us overcome obstacles but also reinforced the value of determination in achieving our goals.
Working collaboratively with peers was both rewarding and challenging. While I generally find collaboration easy, differing opinions and conflicting schedules posed difficulties. However, through effective communication and compromise, we were able to navigate these challenges and deliver a successful event. This experience highlighted the importance of teamwork and leadership in achieving common objectives.
The Global Odyssey event provided a platform to raise awareness about global issues such as sustainability and cultural diversity. By incorporating these themes into our activities and presentations, we aimed to educate our peers about the importance of global citizenship. Understanding these issues contributed to my personal growth by broadening my perspective and instilling a sense of responsibility towards addressing them.
Ethical considerations were integral to the planning and execution of the event. Ensuring inclusivity, respecting cultural sensitivities, and promoting environmental sustainability were paramount. These ethical issues directly influenced our decision-making process and ultimately shaped the outcome of the event. Reflecting on these ethical dilemmas deepened my understanding of ethical responsibility and its implications in real-world contexts.
Participating in the Global Odyssey event enabled me to develop various learner profile characteristics, including communication, collaboration, and open-mindedness. Moreover, the intersection of my subject, Business Management, with CAS provided practical insights into the application of theoretical concepts in real-world scenarios. By organizing an event that benefited both the school community and local charities, I experienced a sense of fulfillment and learned the importance of giving back to society. Moving forward, I intend to apply the skills and knowledge gained from this experience to future endeavors, thereby contributing meaningfully to my community and society at large.
This experience addressing the Global Odyssey event achieved several learning outcomes within the CAS guidelines:
Learning Outcome 2 was demonstrated as I undertook the new challenge of planning and coordinating such a large-scale event. Through this, I developed new skills in areas such as leadership, time management, and project coordination.
Learning Outcome 3 was addressed as my participation required carefully initiating and planning and experience. Working with my peers, we took the idea from conception to execution by mapping out required tasks, timelines and resources.
Learning Outcome 4 is evident as I showed commitment to and perseverance for this CAS experience. Despite facing obstacles, my team and I remained dedicated to ensuring the successful delivery of the Global Odyssey event.
Learning Outcome 5 was achieved through gaining experience collaborating effectively with my team. Both the benefits and challenges of collaboration were explored and strengthened my understanding of working with others.
Learning Outcome 6 was fulfilled by incorporating themes of global significance like sustainability and cultural diversity into our event. This allowed me to demonstrate engagement with important issues.
In summary, this reflection describes how my participation in the Global Odyssey event aligned with several CAS learning outcomes by developing new skills, planning and executing an experience, demonstrating commitment, collaborating with others, and engaging with globally important themes. I believe I have strengthened both my academic understanding and personal growth through this rewarding CAS activity.
