I recently participated in a pretty awesome event called Global Odyssey! It was all about celebrating different cultures and raising money for a good cause. But my role wasn’t just about having fun (although there was plenty of that too!). I was chosen to be a manager of the stalls, which turned out to be a challenging but a rewarding experience.
L1.Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Being honest, managing a group of stalls can be pretty hectic!  There was a lot to organize, from assigning tasks to making sure everything ran smoothly on the day.  While I wasn’t exactly a natural leader at first, I learned to be more assertive and delegate tasks effectively.  By the end of the event, I felt much more confident in my ability to take charge and organize things.
L2. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Of course, there were bound to be unexpected bumps along the road. Some stalls had last-minute changes to their menus, and a few volunteers didn’t show up. But instead of panicking, I learned to think on my feet and come up with solutions. This experience definitely showed me the importance of staying calm under pressure and finding creative ways to solve problems.
L3. Initiate and plan a CAS experience
Even before the event, I was involved in the planning stages.  This meant brainstorming stall ideas, contacting potential vendors, and figuring out accounts of certain stalls. It was a great opportunity to develop my organizational skills and learn how to plan a large-scale event.
L4. Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
This project required a lot of commitment, from the initial planning stages to the actual event day. There were times when it felt overwhelming, but I persevered because I knew it was for a good cause.  Seeing the event come together and everyone having a great time made all the hard work totally worth it.
L5. Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
There’s no way I could have pulled this off alone!  I had a fantastic team of volunteers who helped with everything from setting up stalls to managing sales.  This experience really highlighted the importance of teamwork and communication. By working together, we were able to achieve something much bigger than any of us could have on our own.
L6. Engagement with issues of global significance
The best part of Global Odyssey was knowing that a percentage of the proceeds went towards a global cause. It was a great way to raise awareness about important issues and positively impact the world.
L7. Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
Throughout the planning process, we ensured all the vendors we partnered with were ethical and responsible businesses.  We also focused on selling eco-friendly products whenever possible. It felt good to know that we were making a difference not just through fundraising, but also through our choices.
