Global Odyssey is an event organized by Fountainhead school where business and economics enthusiasts organize their stalls, sell goods and services like a small business to provide exposure to the real-world business skills instead of just theoretical knowledge.
In the Global Odyssey 4.0 I teamed up with 5 more people for the photo booth stall. In that stall, we were clicking pictures of people and providing them with a soft copy of their photos. Since polaroid photographs were the talk of the town, we decided to sell polaroid at rs.100 and photo print at rs. 50.
LO2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
There were several challenges that we had to overcome. The first challenge was to create a photo booth which could match the theme of the event, cherry blossom and would also be cheap and easier to make so that we can attract more customers, have less cost and save up on time. In order to overcome this, we referred to multiple references on pinterest, developed our research skills, combined a few ideas and planned our photo booth in advance. Also since there were 6 people in the group, all of us had different views regarding the pricing of the photographs and what things should be offered to the customers. So then we analyzed all the viewpoints, their strengths and weaknesses, and tried to come to a common ground to create the best possible outcome.
LO3- Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
So planning a photo booth was a tussle on its own. So first of all, to organize ourselves we had created a common document where all the information and ideas were added by the team members. I am usually an organized person, so this was not much of a challenge, I had used my strength of organizing to plan the CAS experience. Also during planning the booth, me and my team had interacted with dealers to provide us with photo reels at the lowest cost possible. We analyzed the costs and benefits of different dealers, calculating our profits, considering different situations that could occur in the event, and then decided on the dealer.
LO4- Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Global odyssey, though fun, came with its own challenges. I was supposed to give a lot of time to the event, and managing the time with my academics was very difficult, but persevered, trying to balance out time. Also during the event, I was the accountant of my group and the challenge was that customers were flooding at the stall, and it was very difficult to keep track of orders and payments so I used to organize every payment or order in my book to keep a track of payments and also effectively cater to my customers.
LO5- Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
All of us in the team had different strengths. 3 people were very good at photography, one person was brilliant at marketing, the other person could effectively communicate and I could effectively take a track of the money. Thus we divided our roles, as per our strengths where I took care of accounts in order to ensure smooth running of our stall.
Learner Profiles
Critical thinker- as we had to analyze a lot of prices, deals, methods to attract consumers and what product should we deliver.
Communicator- as we had created a hangout space to communicate with each other effectively so that we do not miss out on any important information or do not have mis-understanding.
Risk takers- Business is built through risks. We had taken the risk of setting a certain price, which might have backfired but luckily it did not.
