Global Odyssey- CAS project

For my CAS project, I took charge of the Decor team at Global Odyssey, a special event organized by the DP Business Management Team in our school. This event is like a big fair where different aspects of business are showcased, and my role was to make sure everything looked beautiful. Our theme for this event was cherry blossom, chosen to celebrate Valentine’s Day. It was an exciting opportunity for me to use my artistic skills and plan how to decorate the event space to create the right atmosphere.

LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience

As Valentine’s Day approached, we all felt the excitement in the air. Everyone was looking forward to the event, and I knew I wanted to make it extra special by bringing the beauty of cherry blossoms into our school. Being in charge of the Decor team meant I had to plan everything from start to finish. It was a bit nerve-wracking but also thrilling to have such a big responsibility. One specific scenario that tested our teamwork and communication skills was when the group leaders and I had a conflict of interest about the placement of “GLOBAL ODYSSEY” thermocol letters. Some wanted it in the pot while some wanted it to be hanged. . Through open dialogue and compromise, we were able to find a solution that satisfied everyone, demonstrating our ability to collaborate effectively and consider different perspectives.I initiated and meticulously planned the decor, ensuring our theme came to life.

LO7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

Working together with my team was one of the best parts. We all had different ideas, and it was fun to see them come together. We talked a lot about how to make sure our decorations were eco-friendly and didn’t waste too much. It felt good to know we were being responsible while still making things look amazing. In another instance, when brainstorming decor ideas, we encountered a challenge in finding sustainable alternatives for certain materials. Through research and discussion, we identified eco-friendly options that aligned with our values of sustainability and ethics, reinforcing LO7 as we recognized and considered the ethics of our choices, particularly in ensuring sustainable practices and responsible resource use.

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.

Communication was super important throughout the whole project. I had to make sure everyone understood the plan and could share their thoughts too. It wasn’t always easy, but we figured it out together. I learned a lot about how to explain my ideas clearly and listen to others too. There was a moment when miscommunication led to confusion about the timeline for completing certain decorations. By openly addressing the issue and clarifying expectations, we were able to realign our efforts and ensure everything was completed on time, highlighting the importance of effective communication in achieving our goals.

When the big day finally arrived, seeing everything set up and ready to go was the best feeling. The cherry blossom theme looked even better than I imagined, and it was amazing to know that we had all worked together to make it happen. As people walked around and enjoyed the event, I felt really proud of what we had accomplished.

Looking back on the whole experience, I can see how much I’ve grown. Taking on a leadership role like this pushed me out of my comfort zone, but it was totally worth it. I feel more confident now, knowing that I can plan and organize something as big as Global Odyssey. And who knows, maybe there will be more opportunities like this in the future where I can use my skills to make a difference.
