Interschool sports tournament – Activity

This past month I participated in my school’s interschool football tournament held at our school where many schools competed . As a member of my school’s team, I was excited by the opportunity to test our skills against other excellent programs in the region. While we did not achieve the results we set out for, I believe the experience provided me with substantial learning that will stay with me beyond secondary school.

LO1 –  Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth  Entering the tournament, I recognised my key strengths were in creative playmaking and ball control in tight spaces. However, witnessing the speed and power of opposition midfielders highlighted areas that I could focus my own development, such as agility and stamina over longer durations

LO2 –  Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills Through committed training with my teammates, private practice sessions focusing on core strength and high-intensity interval training, I was able to expand my skillset over the weeks leading up to and during the event. By the final games, I could feel myself making runs longer into matches and holding possession under intense pressure

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively. One aspect that surpassed my expectations was the collaboration required between my teammates and I. Our school emphasizes the value of teamwork, however competing at such a high level showed me the true meaning of collective effort. While matches were fiercely contested, all players supported one another through injury delays, and celebrated successes of other schools together afterward. Our captains led democratic discussions around tactics, keeping everyone invested. Personally, I found strength in motivating hesitant players and recognizing when less-experienced teammates needed guidance.

Overall, this experience reinforced the importance of perseverance, leadership, and bringing out the best in those around me. While our results were not what we set out for, being able to represent my school at such a prestigious event was an honor. I leave with valuable lessons about my own potential for growth and the true power of collaboration. In future pursuits both within and beyond the world of sport, I hope to continue pushing myself to new limits and empowering others to do the same.
