In the math club, we were working on challenging mathematics questions and trying to compete with each other to improve ourselves and our skills with fun challenges such as football, races, and other physical activities to keep us charged. We also learned from our mistakes learning the newer concepts of mathematics and exploring the field. I love mathematics and want to pursue it as a career. This club helped me to showcase my mathematics skills while keeping the sessions fun and interesting.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth AND LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
The club pushed me to explore my strengths and also work on my weaknesses. Mathematics has always been my strong subject and this club gave me a platform to showcase my skills. I was required to solve challenging sums and advanced problems to win games and challenges that were put in front of us. Because I was able to solve the questions quickly, I realized that maths of one of my best qualities.
As for the areas for improvement, the activities consisted of some sort of physical exercise which I need to improve upon. Physical fitness is one of my biggest weaknesses and this club has pushed me to improve on the same. This was one of the biggest challenges undertaken in this club.
The new skill that I developed was quick critical thinking. Because there was something at stake (a team game) while solving the sums, it pushed me to think faster and critically while solving questions.
LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
The club was initiated at the end of October and consisted of a session every two weeks in an early in. These sessions are conducted to date and require a lot of perseverance and commitment to attend all the sessions.
The skills that I developed/showcased through this experience –
- Thinkers – as these competitions and sessions will require us to think critically
- Inquirers – We will be required to inquire upon different theorems and concepts in the subject
- Knowledgeable – We will be asked to use our previous knowledge in the sessions
- Balanced – this club will make sure that out physical as well as mental wellbeing is maintained.
