Every grade of our school takes part in “Night Out” activity in which either students stay back till 3:35p. m. or are picked on a Saturday evening. This year for the first time 11th and 12th grades had their night out. Such activities as fof; sale of food joint, games and there was a murder mystery. Since it was a student led organization, many volunteers where recruited that year which include myself to assist in the organization of the event.

My position was tailored in making sure that the flow of the murder mystery and games went on without any hitches. It entailed responding to any queries that other students may be willing to ask concerning the games while providing clues, solutions, and other related materials.

LO2 – Demonstrate challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

There are some of the difficulties that we faced during the event. Before the event started we were like us the volunteers helping to set up the murder mystery equipment and relay races while students washed up and changed into more comfortable clothing. In order to do so, we had to position the seating arrangement and the other equipment in such a way that would support the conducts of already pre-planned game. However, one major problem, which we encountered was scarcity of resources and particularly chairs.

At some point, we were able to quickly scramble for several contingency measures that would solve this problem to restore order and avoid having a very distraught meeting.

On one hand, it was difficult for me to stay cool when faced with stress, but I have learnt that there is need to be patient most especially when stresses are present.

LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

Through out this CAS experience, I showed commitment and passion in what I do. As for all the volunteers, we were supposed to have a preliminary meeting regarding our role in the event not only on the day of the event but on the previous days as well. Moreover, I was required to prepare some materials and necessary equipment for the event prior to the event and this is where I could demonstrate that I am willing to do my best for the event to be successful.

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

This means that all the activities that were to be conducted as well as the food to be provided were arranged by the students in charge. Such volunteers like me were only recruited at the last minute to help in the logistics even though we had little idea of the event’s planning. One could quickly see and understand that the student leaders who were leading every group did a phenomenal job at explaining our roles and responsibilities as volunteers.
