Having always had a strong interest in finance, I took the initiative to found my school’s Accounting, Finance, and Stock Market Club in order to provide a community for other students passionate about business. In doing so, I not only challenged myself by starting something new from the ground up, but also aimed to foster learning for others.
As the co-founder, I was responsible for establishing the club’s mission and overseeing all operations. This required demonstrating leadership skills and taking initiative to plan and coordinate our activities according to the following learning outcomes.
Learning Outcome 1: was met as I recognized my strengths in financial analysis but also identified a need to develop my presentation skills. By guiding discussions and frequently speaking publicly, I improved my communication abilities over time.
Learning Outcome 2: starting a new club from conception pushed me far outside my comfort zone. Through persevering to complete tasks like creating our charter, recruiting members, and holding regular meetings, I gained skills in project management and leadership.
Learning Outcome 3: significant planning was necessary to initiate our experiences. I worked to map out a strategic vision, set attainable goals, and effectively delegate responsibilities to the officer team. This has taught me valuable lessons in planning that I can apply to future endeavors.
Finally, much of our success relied on collaboration as stated in Learning Outcome 5. I strove to foster an environment of cooperation and value all member contributions, regardless of position. Leading by example of working as a team taught me the immense power of cooperation.
Overall, starting this CAS experience allowed me to grow both creatively and personally in numerous ways. I feel this experience has prepared me to take on new leadership roles with confidence in the future.
