Night Out Volunteer

Every grade participates in our school’s yearly “Night Out” event. whereby every student is either requested to stay after school, that is, after 3:35 pm, or they are called on Saturday evening. The eleventh and twelfth grades had a joint night out this year. For the students, there was food, games, and a murder mystery planned. Several volunteers, including myself, were hired to assist with the event’s logistics because it was a student-led initiative.

In particular, I contributed to the murder mystery and game’s smooth operation. Specifically, this entails responding to any queries other students may have about the games and distributing the clues, solutions, etc.

LO2 – demonstrate challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

We had some difficulties while the event was ongoing. Before the event started, after school, we volunteers were asked to assist with setting up the murder mystery equipment and relay races, while all of the children were requested to change into comfortable clothes. The seats and other equipment needed to be arranged so as to work with the game plan that was created. We did, however, run out of resources and a few chairs while we were doing so. In that specific case, it was presented to us as a challenge.

After that, we developed a number of solutions for this specific issue. We were able to maintain our calm and come up with a plan to keep the event from failing despite the circumstances.

Being calm is not something I naturally possess, but this experience helped me learn how crucial it is to maintain patience when faced with anxiety.

LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

I demonstrated commitment during this CAS. All volunteers were requested to get together before the event day so we could talk about our roles in it. In addition, we were asked to set up the materials, etc., prior to the event starting, which demonstrated my dedication to handling the event’s logistics effectively.

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

Everything about the event, including the activities and food, had been prepared by them. Volunteers like us were invited to pitch in at the last minute to help with the event’s logistics, even though none of us knew how it would be organised. As a result, it was crucial that we paid attention to the other students who were in charge of organising the entire thing as they were able to clarify our roles and obligations as volunteers.
