Pi day is held on 14th of March every year, on the date of Einstein’s birthday. This event is based on celebrating math and it’s many contributions to the real world and practicality. My love for math and creativity urged me to take on the role of decor head for this event as my CAS project. I lead a team of around 10 people and we created all sorts of math related decor and hangings to make the event look aesthetically good looking and well as more thematic. Under the theme of ” Math as magic”, we made hangings of playing cards, a big backdrop of a magic hat, a vibrant logo of pie and various other assortments.
LO 4:Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences:
Being the decor head, I had numerous responsibilities on my head along with accounting for all the members of my team. This was indeed a very overwhelming task to do and required undivided commitment. I held team meetings before school everyday for 2 weeks before the event which required consistency and a lot of dedication. We had many setbacks along the way, with issues ranging from delivery of raw materials to changing of venues and themes, but alas we persevered and completed all our tasks perfectly.
LO 7:Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
As mentioned above as well, I had to account and lead the entire decor team comprising of members, each with a different mindset , skillset and taste in decor. It was a challenge to recognize the presence of each person in the group and make ethical choices in regards to dividing work equally. Addition to that, I had to consider each choice I made on the basis of making each and every member feel acknowledged and included while making sure everyone works together and the work doesn’t pile up on just a certain set of people.
To conclude, this journey of CAS experience was overwhelming yet very essential as it taught me a lot about having responsibilities and being true to our roles. It made me interact with a lot of my peers and understand their point of view and background as well, all while appreciating math.
