As a student travelling to Sankheda for a rural immersion programme, I was looking forward to a life-changing experience that would allow me to explore the essence of rural life in India. I had no idea that this journey would provide me with a deep insight of my own strengths and places for improvement in addition to exposing me to the complexities of farming, animal husbandry, and teaching.
Learning Outcome 1: Identify Own Strengths and Develop Areas for Growth
I was able to step beyond of my comfort zone by participating in a range of activities during the vacation. Every job required a different set of talents, whether it was teaching disadvantaged pupils, milking cows, or taking care of the fields. I identified areas where I might grow, like patience and time management, while also realising my knack for efficient communication and adaptability. I’ve been inspired by this experience to view obstacles as chances for growth and development, in both my personal and professional life.
Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrate That Challenges Have Been Undertaken, Developing New Skills
As I took on the obstacles of rural Sankheda living, I discovered that I was learning a lot of new abilities. Every activity needed commitment and persistence, from understanding the nuances of milking cows to becoming an expert in sustainable farming. It also required mental toughness and physical resilience to go through the difficult terrain. These difficulties not only improved my practical abilities but also gave me a tenacity that I may carry into my future undertakings.
Learning Outcome 5: Demonstrate Skills and Benefits of Working Collaboratively
Working cooperatively with other students and the local community was one of the trip’s most fulfilling experiences. The strength of teamwork was demonstrated through projects like growing crops, building a community centre, or teaching classes to less fortunate pupils. In addition to enabling us to do more, working together promoted a sense of cohesion and one goal. This event made clear how crucial cooperation and group effort are when taking on difficult problems.
Learning Outcome 6: Engagement with Issues of Global Significance
Interacting with the rural Sankheda community made me realise how important topics like rural development, education inequity, and sustainable agriculture are on a global scale. My ability to relate theoretical knowledge to practical difficulties was facilitated by my first-hand experience. It inspired a desire to actively participate in finding solutions to these global problems, highlighting the significance of a global viewpoint in identifying just and sustainable solutions.
Learner Profile Attribute: Principled
Developing the principled learner profile attribute was a critical component of my Sankheda experience. Gaining a profound comprehension of the cultural values and viewpoints of the people and the Panchayat was necessary for effective communication. In this situation, being principled meant being considerate, respectful, and open-minded. I became more adept at sensitively entering into talks, recognising the diversity of viewpoints, and making sure that my behaviour matched a moral stance. In addition to broadening my awareness of culture, this experience has made me more committed to living a moral life in all spheres of my existence.
In summary, the rural immersion trip to Sankheda has been an incredibly enriching experience in terms of personal development, skill enhancement, teamwork, and global awareness. It has not only influenced how I see the world and myself, but it has also strengthened my resolve to use moral behaviour to address global concerns.
