Bal mela is a school event which is hosted every year.  It is an event where students from government and village schools come together to try various activities which are hosted by our school students. The activities are divided into sports , games , art and crafts , and dance. Each school tries everything which gives them exposure to each activity. This event happened on 24th February 2024 (Saturday)

Learner Profiles which I had used:

I used the Learner Profiles of Open-minded and Caring. Open-minded as I went out of my comfort zone to teach the younger ones. Usually people stay away as they feel it is harder  to teach the local people from the government but I usually try to participate in these activities as it helps me to learn about different people , their speciality and their personality. Each student’s smile helps me in motivating these activities more. Caring as I made sure that our guests(students) were treated well and with fairness. Their safety , the whole process and each student was talked and looked at with care. Because they were guests and friends a better care was needed.

Learning Outcome 1 – Identify Own Strengths and Develop Areas for Growth : 

This event went perfect for me as I had an earlier experience of Community Service which was almost the same as this event. My strengths in this event helped me to conduct my games easily. Firstly , the students only spoke their native language and I could speak that language easily as it was my mother tongue. Next , I had experience of talking with younger children and could communicate easily with them. I am also good at team-work and at collaboration skills. Lastly I had chosen the activity of playing games which was my forte. By meeting different people , I can improve my communication skills. 

Learning Outcome 5 –  Demonstrate Skills and Benefits of Working Collaboratively : 

In this event , each student was divided into activities of their choice. My job was to play a game of cover the spot where participants would throw the frisbee on 5 different cones in order to win a prize. I was grouped with 3 different people and we had a helper in the form of didi’s. As I was comfortable with the native language , I spoke about the rules to the government students and gave them a frisbee while one partner was giving the frisbee back and tried to keep the cones in place and the third partner made sure that who would receive the prize for throwing the frisbee on the cone. We worked together for almost 3-4 hours till each school and it’s students had completed the activity. Doing this work single-handedly wouldn’t have been possible and surely needed people to make the volunteers happy and this activity successful.

Learning Outcome 6 – Demonstrate Engagement with Issues of Global Significance :

Government school students don’t often get a chance to try these various activities and games. As some of them live in the villages , they aren’t that wealthy to afford the equipment. So for one day we try to forget our own enjoyment and try to bring a smile on their face by making them play these games. I can connect this event with the SDG number 10 which is Reduced Inequalities as we tried to reduce the inequality between them and we as a student who are studying private schools. Additionally I also observed that there was no particular division between boys and girls , each had to complete different activities which meant that girls would also play games and boys would have to do the art and craft.

Learning Outcome 7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions : 

Because the kids were younger than me and belonged to government schools , it was my duty to respect them and treat them well. Using proper language and also the language which they could understand(Gujarati). As I was using the frisbee , I had to make sure that it won’t hurt others as well as the kids. Moreover , I had to make sure that each student got the prize fairly. I am sure that helping these students have made their day more enjoyable but my job was to treat them well , make them learn and lastly keep them enjoyed.
