I did an online course presented by the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. This course was about Firm Level Economics: Consumer and Producer Behavior. I learned a lot in this course and it made me realize that economics is much more than just theories and that it contains a lot of graphs and math. This course was an excellent eye-opener on what economics is actually like in the real world and taught me a lot about different types of cost curves, types of firms, short-term and long-term firms, etc.

LO1. Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth.

Undertaking the online course on Firm Level Economics: Consumer and Producer Behavior presented by the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign was not only a significant academic endeavor but also a journey of personal growth. Initially, I harbored reservations about online learning, accustomed as I was to the interactive dynamics of traditional classroom settings. However, embarking on this course challenged me to reassess my perceptions and adapt to a new mode of learning.

Through this experience, I identified several strengths within myself, notably my capacity for adaptability and resilience. Despite initial difficulties in grasping certain concepts and navigating the online platform, I persisted, leveraging resources such as Google to surmount obstacles. This process fostered independence and honed my research skills, as I learned to seek solutions autonomously rather than relying solely on instructors for guidance.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

An online course was a challenge I had taken because I was not usually confident with taking online courses due to the lack of inquiry and conversation like in an offline class. But this course was an excellent eyes opener to my viewpoint on online courses in general. As this was my first online course I had to face some challenges like not being able to understand some concepts and finding time to learn the course but as I went ahead with the course I was able to understand the course more and any inquiry I had I would use google to solve it. Hence this also made me independent and not rely on tutors for all the answers and developed my research skills in some way or another.

LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment to CAS experience

The online course I am doing is a specialization and requires 6 months to complete and I have to make time for the course to complete it on time. In addition, the course also improved my time management skills as part of this course I also had to work on my academics and prepare for upcoming tests hence taking time out for the course allowed me to develop time management skills. I showed perseverance and commitment as I had to sit every day and diligently do the course even when I didn’t have the time to because if I didn’t the course deadlines would pass.
