Blog: Support Staff Talent Show – A Heartfelt Tribute
The Support Staff Talent Show was a unique event dedicated to celebrating the people who often work behind the scenes but are integral to the functioning of our school: the support staff. This event provided them with a platform to showcase their diverse talents, allowing us to express our gratitude for their hard work and dedication in a meaningful way.
LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Through organizing the event, I recognized my strength in communication and coordination. However, I also realized I could improve in managing stress and handling last-minute changes with more composure.
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
Coordinating between multiple departments and ensuring the smooth execution of the event was a challenge, but I developed stronger organizational and time-management skills.
LO3: Initiating and Planning a CAS Experience
Planning this talent show involved detailed coordination among students and staff. As part of the organizing team, we wanted to create a memorable experience that would not only highlight the skills of the support staff but also ensure they felt appreciated. From stage arrangements to finalizing the lineup, we had to coordinate between departments and staff schedules. The experience taught me valuable lessons in event management and collaboration, as we worked to ensure everything ran smoothly.
LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Despite the challenges of scheduling and logistics, I stayed committed to ensuring the event was successful. It required persistence and continuous effort to overcome setbacks.
LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
The event’s success depended heavily on teamwork. Collaborating with students and staff, I learned the importance of delegating tasks, listening to others’ input, and how collaboration can lead to a more cohesive and successful outcome.
LO6: Engagement with Issues of Global Significance
The event also served as an opportunity to address a broader issue of inclusion and recognition. In many places, support staff can sometimes go unrecognized for their essential contributions. By organizing this talent show, we aimed to challenge that mindset and promote a culture of gratitude and appreciation. Globally, acknowledging the value of every worker, regardless of their role, is a significant step towards more equitable treatment. Our event was a local expression of that global ideal.
LO7: Recognizing the Ethics of Choices and Actions
Ethics played a critical role throughout the planning and execution of this event. We were mindful of creating an atmosphere that truly honored the support staff, avoiding any sense of obligation or formality. The event was designed to be a space where they could relax and feel celebrated on their own terms. Additionally, we worked to ensure that all the logistical and technical aspects, from rehearsals to sound and lighting, were handled with care to make the staff feel comfortable and appreciated.
The Support Staff Talent Show was not just about entertainment—it was about recognizing the hard work, talent, and humanity of individuals who contribute so much to our daily lives at school. The smiles, applause, and heartfelt performances left a lasting impact, reminding us all of the importance of gratitude and respect for every member of our community.
